We all have different amounts of energy and time on our hands which we can spend on cleaning. I've created this list you can look at to get an idea at how often you should do different kinds of cleaning. Important note: It goes without saying that all of these are HIGHLY dependant on the person and will vary a lot depending on wear and use. In a household with several people, cleaning is hygienic surfaces like light-switches are more important due to contamination.
Lightswitch | Aim for | Note |
---|---|---|
Lightswitch | Semi monthly | Wipe down with cleaning solution and/or disinfectant. Take extra care in cold- and flu-season. |
Windows | Biannual | Use windowcleaner and a clean towel. Do two passes if the windows are very dirty. Don't forget to clean between the windows every now and again, if possible. |
Everyday surfaces | Weekly | This is very dependant on context. A surface on which you prepare food is much more critical than say a desk. |
Desk | Weekly | This is very dependant on context. A surface on which you prepare food is much more critical than say a desk. |
Office chair | Twice a year | This depends highly on the material of the chair. For plastic parts in contact with your skin, use cleaningsolution and a rag. On fabric materials and unsure what to use, brush off the surface, then moisten lightly and press with a towel. This get rid of surface discolorations and filth. |
Kitchen cabinet doors | Once every couple months or once visibly dirty. | If heavily dirtied, spray with water or disinfectant and let soak for 5 minutes before. |
A lot of people have yearly routines for doing "deep" cleaning of their living-quarters.
